Dr.Treuer; Thank you sir, for your good work with our people. Iam Cherokee, out of Indiana. I haved lived in California 35yrs give or take a few yrs. There are not many wood land Natives here. My oldest,when she was eight, told me “Indians were bad people”. I asked her were did she learn this. She said on TV. We can never have a genuine society, when white males can flagrantly refer to an entire group of people, by the colour of their skin via, a pro foot ball team (Washington Red*****). We Native Americans must change attitudes toward our selevs. We need to look out after, our selves as our Nations. I, stop being an Indian a long time ago. Look up the word Doc.Indian- a derivite of indiginous.It has nothing to,Our Native People. Its a white colonia lable. I have been lectured to, regularly by my 80yr old Cherokee Aunt, in Mich. About how, as Native Americans. To address our selves, in a proper maner. For us we are not only Native People, We are the First People. Thus from the great Sprit “The People”. So help if you could, lets move into the future, with new names for are people. Less Indians and more Natives and no Red Skins. If they want to call us rasist names.
