Nayana Ramakrishnan was born in Mumbai, India in 1953. She lived with her parents in Pune, India until age 7, when they immigrated to the United States. She attended the University of Minnesota, and met her husband in the Indo-American students club. At the time of the interview Ramakrishnan and her husband worked together in computer programming.
