Mario Duarte: Becoming Minnesotan

Mario Duarte was born in El Salvador and studied sociology at the Dale Carnegie Institute and the National University of El Salvador. Duarte later married Esperanza Quesada and the couple raised four children. Due to the civil war in El Salvador Duarte and his family escaped to the United States in 1982. He founded La Prensa, the first spanish-language newspaper in the Twin Cities, and has served as a prominent figure for the Latino community in Minnesota.
