Oral History Guides: Becoming Minnesotan

Student Activity: Oral History Guides

The Oral History Guides are print resources and a series of podcasts to guide your students through the oral history process.

Oral history projects help teach students important social skills AND address state and national education standards related to historical thinking:

  • doing research
  • synthesizing information
  • writing questions
  • processing and analyzing the information gathered in the interview
  • presenting this new historical record to a wider audience

For handouts with tips on interviewing and ideas for oral history projects to do with students, visit the Minnesota's Greatest Generation Teacher Tools webpage.

For a concise overview of the oral history process, download the Project Guidelines on the Minnesota Historical Society Oral History Collection webpage.
