Objects
The Daniels Objects Conservation Laboratory is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of three dimensional historical objects ranging in age from 9,000 years old to the present. Materials treated include all natural and man-made substances.
The lab is staffed by two objects conservators. Staff frequently work with volunteers and interns from various colleges and universities on conservation and museum science-related projects.
The lab staff is responsible for the condition assessment and actual treatment of all three dimensional objects that are acquired for the collections, chosen for exhibition, and used by MHS Historic Sites. In addition, staff are engaged in testing materials for exhibits construction to ensure their safety for object preservation; writing procedures for the preventative care of collections; electronically monitoring collections storage and display areas; writing articles for curators and the general public; answering inquiries on conservation questions; and conducting basic conservation treatment research.
