1st Minnesota officer's corps insignia
Soldiers wore corps insignia badges to show which corps, or section of the army, they were a part of. This clover-shaped insignia meant that the wearer was enlisted in the Second Corps of the Army of the Potomac. The engraving on the badge reads that it belonged to Lieutenant George Boyd Jr. of the First Minnesota. Boyd was wounded in the right thigh at Gettysburg, but recovered and returned to the Army.
