American Legion national convention

In March 1919, soldiers in the American Expeditionary Force gathered in Paris to organize a group dedicated to helping veterans. Eight months later, the organization -- now chartered by Congress and called the American Legion -- held its first national convention in Minneapolis. Minnesota cities hosted the convention again in 1924, 1959, 1975, 1994 and 2011.

In August 2018, the American Legion will again be in Minneapolis for its 100th annual convention.
