Red Cross workers produced 372 million relief articles during the war, including bandages, dressings, and face masks. Local chapters, with volunteers totaling more than eight million adults, gathered across the country to make these materials. The instructions to create a face mask are very specific, to ensure consistency across the many local chapters.
