The Bemidji Daily Pioneer, June 8, 1917

In the early 20th century, the Bemidji Daily Pioneer used headlines in a way that was not common to other small-circulation newspapers of the era. Headlines were big and bold, and articles often included multiple headlines of various sizes. This issue, with its large, full-page headline -- "America Preparing for 3 Years War" -- mixes war stories about General Pershing and American aviators in France, with more local stories about a miners' strike and Bemidji's Fourth of July celebration.

You can view all eight pages of the June 8, 1917 Bemidji Daily Pioneer in the Minnesota Newspaper Hub.  Page three includes images, floorplans, and price of a brand-new home, as well as advertisements for a lumber company.
