Civil War soldiers from Company G, incl. White Earth Indians
Company G of the Ninth Minnesota was recruited in St. Cloud in August 1862. The regiment was sent to fight the Dakota in the U.S.-Dakota War and later served in the Civil War in the South. Many of the regiment were Ojibwe, including members of the Fairbanks family, who were related to fur trader John Sayer and his first wife, Bwanequay.
