Colors of Valors: 28th Virginia Battle Flag in Minnesota

This article in Minnesota History magazine pieces together the story of one of the Minnesota Historical Society's most publically interesting artifacts. The 28th Virginia Battle Flag was captured by Marshall Sherman on July 3, 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg. For the next 140 years, the flag traveled, was lost, was found, and was involved in a larger discussion of "who owns history?"

Most Minnesota History articles are at a higher reading level and are likely most suited for adults.
