French shoes worn in the Norton-Harjes Ambulance Corps
Strong footwear is important for soldiers during wartime. They spend hours on their feet, often outside in terrible weather. During World War I, soldiers faced days in muddy, wet trenches. These shoes, issued to Ezra Curry in France as he served in the ambulance corps, are made of leather and steel, with iron nails through the soles.
