He is No Good Now
This painting, "He is No Good Now -- Only in the Way," was created in 1911 by Civil War veteran Josias King. It is very similar in style to another of King's paintings: "Nothing Too Good for Him."
This artwork depicts a elderly, disabled Civil War veteran. The title comments on the frustration felt by veterans -- often those who are older or disabled by the war in some way -- that despite their service, they are considered a burden to society. King was 79 years old in 1911, still working to supplement his small military pension.
