Josias R. King Standing in Front of Bronze Statue
In 1903, Josias King posed for the face of a new bronze statue to be built in St. Paul. The statue was to honor Minnesota's Civil War veterans, and still stands today near the Cathedral of St. Paul. This image shows King standing in front of the statue before it was placed in position on the monument.
The monument has text on four sides. The text referring to King states: "Erected through the instrumentality of the allied organizations of the city of St. Paul Grand Army of the Republic A.D. 1903 the statue represents Josias R. King the first man to volunteer in the First Minnesota Infantry the first regiment tendered the government for the suppression of the rebellion."
