Not all Americans were supportive of U.S. involvement in World War I. But those who did not show support were often looked at with suspicion. The Minnesota Commission of Public Safety was charged with keeping an eye out for disloyal people, or people who didn't seem to show strong support for the United States, the war, or the government. The loyalty of many groups were questioned, including immigrants, political radicals, labor unions, and people of German heritage.
