Military dinner menu
This menu is from a celebration given for the First Minnesota at the National Hotel in Washington, D.C., on February 6, 1864. The celebrated regiment was making their way home when they stopped for this party in their honor. The banquet and reception lasted late into the night and even included a speech from Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. The menu begins with a list of the battles the First Minnesota took part in. The meal consisted of 11 courses -- soup, fish, boiled, cold dishes, entrees, game, roast, vegetables, relishes, pastry, and dessert -- with dishes that included fried oysters, chicken fricassee, and a variety of pies.
