Minnesota National Guard flag
When the United States declared war on Germany in April 1917, state National Guards were mobilized to active duty. Minnesota's National Guard has recently been sent to the Mexican border on patrol duty, as the U.S. government wanted to protect the Texas border from Mexican raids. When they returned, many were soon sent back to the southwest, to Camp Cody in New Mexico, for training. Many of the Minnesota's National Guard soldiers were sent to France during the war.
