The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1920, after a 70-year fight by suffragettes to win women the right to vote. The amendment made it legal for American women to vote in all elections. Before it was ratified, some states had granted limited voting rights. In 1875, the Minnesota legislature passed an amendment allowing women to vote in school elections, such as school board.
