Our Boys Need Sox
One of soldiers' greatest needs was socks. Many soldiers serving on the front suffered from "trench foot," caused by constant foot exposure to cold, damp, and unsanitary conditions in the trenches. Trench foot could lead to infection and gangrene. On the homefront, women and children knit thousands of pairs of socks to send overseas.
