The Red Cross Motor Corps was formed to provide transportation and communication during World War I. Among their tasks was transporting sick and wounded soldiers home to their families, conveying supplies, providing ambulance services, and more. The corps was almost entirely made up of women, providing their own vehicles. By war’s end, 3.5 million miles had been travelled by over 12,000 Motor Corps workers.
