Soldier's gourd spice container

Not quite four inches tall, this salt-and-pepper container was part of Matthais Schlinker's cooking set. It is made from a gourd, a type of vegetable that dries after harvest. This makes it relatively simple to use the gourd shell to make items such as bowls and containers.
