Toothpicks
These toothpicks belonged to General Lewis Addison Grant, who commanded the First Vermont Brigade. The First Vermont or "Old" Brigade took part at least partially in nearly every major Civil War battle and became very highly respected for their hard work and sacrifices in such battles as Gettysburg and Antietam. These toothpicks are carved out of bone and would have helped General Grant get the tough boiled ration meat out of his teeth.
