The Trenches at Fort Snelling

When the United States entered World War I, the army needed to quickly train officers to lead American soldiers overseas. Training camps were established around the country, including at Fort Snelling. To help train the officers, these trenches were constructed at Fort Snelling, under the direction of a French Army captain. They were intended to be similar to the trenches in western Europe.
