Trimes

Trimes were three-cent coins that were created in the 1850s as a way to easily pay for postage stamps, which cost three cents. At the beginning of the Civil War, however, the number of trimes manufactured declined greatly, due to less resources and low demand. Even after the war ended, the trime could not gain back its popularity, and they were no longer minted after 1873. These trimes were carried by Sergeant Matthew Marvin of the First Minnesota, Company K.
