This tent, used by Josiah Lothrop of the Eighth Minnesota Regiment, is made of white cotton and reinforced with linen. Generally, Union soldiers were given one piece of the tent and they would share with another person, combining their two pieces to create a full tent. The tents were small for even one person, let alone two. Soldiers used to call them "dog tents" because only a dog could comfortably fit.
