US military riding boots

Norman Claussen wore these riding boots while serving with the Mexican Border Patrol in 1916. Riding boots were different from the trench boots that soldiers wore while serving in Europe. To prevent the saddle from pinching a rider's leg, riding boots were taller and reached up past the calf. Trench boots were much shorter, and were eventually made waterproof to prevent trench water from seeping into the boot and causing trench foot.
