Winslow Hotel, St. Anthony

The Winslow House Hotel was completed in 1857 and was considered a luxury hotel. It became popular with Southern tourists escaping the summer heat. Winslow Hotel became the center of a controversy in 1860 when enslaved women Eliza Winston escaped from her owners, who were wealthy Southerners staying at the hotel. After the Civil War started, the hotel lost much of its clientele. The building was torn down in 1886.
