World War I postcard
This postcard shows a colorized image of soldiers on the front, with a note: "Got our uniforms today. 9-6-18." On the back, the postcard is addressed to Mr. Oscar Olson from St. Paul. Its writer, Bob, sent the postcard from Camp Grant in Rockford, Illinois: "Well whats doing in St. P. We are piling lumber & handling mules for a spell and its some work. Bob. Write soon & often." The role of Depot Brigades, such as the one Bob belonged to, was to recruit soldiers, provide them with uniforms and training, and send them to France. Camp Grant was one of the largest military training facilities during the war.
