Biography
Eliza Scott was born in England in 1807 and married Samuel Medary in 1823 in Washington D.C. The couple had 12 children.

President James Buchanan appointed Samuel Medary as Minnesota's third and final territorial governor in 1857. Samuel Medary spent little time in Minnesota during his tenure as governor, and it is possible that Eliza never accompanied her husband to the territory. Governor Medary was in office for less than a year. His term came to an end when Minnesota was admitted to the Union as the 32nd State on May 11, 1858.

Samuel Medary died in 1864 and Eliza never remarried. At the time of her death in 1885 Eliza was living with her widowed daughter, Virginia Medary Wilson, and other family members in Columbus, Ohio.
