Biography
Amelia Thomas was born in 1843 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She was the third of five children born to Charles and Amelia Thomas. The Thomas family moved to Red Wing, Minnesota in June 1857.

It was in Red Wing that Amelia met and married Civil War veteran, Lucius Frederick Hubbard. The Hubbards had three children: Charles P., Lucius V. and Julia M.

Hubbard served as governor of Minnesota from 1882 to 1887. Little is known of Amelia's responsibilities as first lady. She was listed in the 1910 U.S. census as an "author of fiction".

Lucius Hubbard died February 5, 1913 in Minneapolis, and Amelia followed in 1923. Both are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing, Minnesota.
