The business of dressmaking.

Kate Puetz 1895-1899

Born in Stearns County, Minnesota in 1875 of German immigrant parents, Kate Puetz is listed as a dressmaker in the St. Paul City Directory from at least 1895. Her business was at 357 Wabasha Street.

Alice Lind, a client of Kate Puetz, wore this dress in 1899, for the inauguration of her husband, John Lind as Minnesota Governor. The Saint Paul Globe of January 4, 1899 describes it as follows, "Mrs. Lind wore an exquisite creation of cream satin with tny ruffles of cream chiffon and yoke and sleeves of duchesse lace. She carried an immense bunch of white roses." The lace has been removed from the bodice.

Her portrait below dates slightly earlier.
