The Hesper was salvaged after the time of sinking by J.B. Wanless, employing the tug Sara Smith. Wanless recovered the engines, boilers, shaft and propeller. Divers Donald Franklin and Curtis Anderson located the Hesper in late August of 1961. They salvaged its nameplate, the ship's bell, the compass binnacle, numerous dishes, lamps and many other brass fittings.
