Conservationist Sigurd F. Olson was born in 1899. He was one time president of both the National Parks Association and the Wilderness Society. He as also the author of works including The Singing Wilderness, Listening Point, The Lonely Land, Ruins of the North, Open Horizons, and Wilderness Days.

Subjects discussed include: childhood, education, early conservationist efforts, Boundary Waters Canoe Area, the interest of youth in the environment, the importance of the wilderness, his writing and Robert Herbst's work as Minnesota Department of Natural Resources commissioner.
